Popup adventures – Kerr Lake State Rec Area

Last weekend we checked two things off our list….yet another state park AND the first time taking the popup camper on a road trip.We stayed at Kerr Lake State Recreation Area which is a collective of seven access areas scattered around the shoreline of this 50,000-acre reservoir that reaches into Virginia. Hundreds of campsites among five of the access areas offer a range of outdoor experience from RV hookups to group camps. There are several swim beaches in the recreation area and multiple boating ramps. We set up our campsite at Nutbush loop 3 on Friday evening after work (about an hour and a half drive from our house) and had a fabulous weekend of swimming and relaxing. This was the first time we have camped at this campground and booked on the recommendation of friends. Honestly, I can’t say enough nice things about this site – it was easy to find, the campsite was shady and close to the beach access and everyone we met was nice and friendly. The only (very small) thing I could complain about is that the bathhouse is a bit old and I wish there were hooks in the showers. No hooks = a very hard time washing a squirmy 5 year old. Lol. Trying to shower us both and keep our clean clothes and towels dry was tough. It was a lovely weekend and we can’t wait to go back another time.I highly recommend this campground if you are camping with small children. There were many other kids to play with and you have visibility enough to generally let them roam freely and still be able to see them.Until the next adventure……..
