My sister lives in the very small town of Dexter, Maine which has a population of less than 5000. The lake that is located there is fabulous – Lake Wassookeag. This might not be a road trip destination but we spent a lot of time swimming and fishing here while we were visiting so I thought it was worth an honorable mention at the very least.
Also, there were a ton of baby ducks to stalk and upload to my instagram so I was amused constantly.

They also have an awesome restaurant on site called the Lakeshore Restaurant. Delicious food and soooooooooooo many flavors of ice cream.
I cannot EVEN TELL you or rave enough about their food. If you are ever in the area you will have to stop by.
