Maine Eats: What we ate in the Pine Tree State

This is just about the last post in my Maine summer vacation series and it is all about one of my favorite things about going home…..THE FOOD.

Yes, you heard me right. The food. Those things that you cant get anywhere but in New England (or Maine). Food that I love. Food that I miss. Food that I forget all about until I go back and then I cannot get enough of it.

Red Hot Dogs – Yeeeeeesssssssss ma’am. These are my favorite. You cannot buy them in North Carolina and I loooooooove them. While we were home this trip I probably ate 1000000000 pounds of these all on my own. Dexter (where my sister lives) even has a Red Hot Dog Festival if that tells you anything at all.

Marshmallow Fluff – I used to love this stuff as a kid and my kids discovered a love for it during this trip. Many a “Fluffernutter” sandwiches were consumed.

Milk Toast – In case you have been living under a rock in the south your whole life and have no idea. This is basically sausage gravy without the sausage and is served over homemade biscuits. I do realize that I could make this myself at my own home in North Carolina but it just doesnt TASTE the same as when I make my little sister cook it for me. Lol.

Macaroni and cheese loaf – Its lunchmeat. It has macaroni in it. I mean……..My kids had never eaten it until this trip home and then they ate it for like a week straight. Lol.

Fiddleheads – I did not get any of these on this trip. But I love them and thought they were worth a mention. For those of you that have no idea what these are, they are basically young ferns. You go out into the woods and pick them. HERE is a recipe if you are interested.

There are others of course……

You will notice that I haven’t mentioned any seafood. Seafood in Maine is pretty much a given. I LOVE IT ALL and so do the kids.

Check out all of the fabulousness we ate on this visit home.

We also grabbed our water straight out of a spring while we were there.

Until the next adventure…….
